John Obaro Unveils GoDo.ng Facility for Start-up Development

The need to develop start-ups and improve the culture of entrepreneurship in any economy cannot be over-emphasised.

More so, research has proven that one of the ways of achieving this is through developing clusters of communities that can serve as catalysts for entrepreneurship development.

It is to this end that the Nigerian start-up ecosystem witnessed the addition of GoDo Hub to its folds, with a promise to ensure that more young people are given the necessary platforms and opportunities to grow.

L-R: Managing Director, SystemSpecs, John Obaro and CoFounder, GoDo.ng, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata Jnr. “CFA” at the public unveiling of the facility located in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

GoDo.ng was publicly unveiled on Monday, October 1, 2018, in a brief, but colourful event, at 53, Oladipo Bateye Road, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

The unveiling event was performed by Mr. John Obaro, Managing Director, SystemSpecs, who expressed delight at the thought of the Co-Founders of GoDo.ng, for commencing such a project, for the benefit of available talents in the country.

Mr. Obaro in a brief admonition at the gathering, shared how Remita has stayed sustainable primarily because of being single minded.

According to him, focus and persistency are keys to achieving whatever goal one has set.

“Remita platform would have long been dead if I did not have the strength of character. My primary advice to start-ups would be to avoid distractions by all means necessary and it is important for entrepreneurs to always be true to themselves”, he concluded.

GoDo.ng, is a platform established and made available for the use of creative and innovative minds, as they converge to share co-working space, with state-of-the-art-facilities, connect and collaborate with one another.

It also provides a serene environment to learn from business experts, mentors, coaches, investors, etc., as well as build relationships, with a view to scale.

Also, the facility is suitable for cognitive thinking and privacy, with co-working space, uninterrupted power supply, free and fast internet connection provided by Swift Networks.

A former President of the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria, Mr. Chris Uwaje expressed delight at the launch of the facility.

According to him, “Nigeria has no business being poor, however, to achieve any meaningful development, we have to retool our workforce, educational structures and platforms like this would help us achieve that as long as we put our minds to it.”

Speaking at the event, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata Jnr, Co-founder of GoDo.ng, expressed joy on the progress that startups across the country have made despite the harsh economic conditions and weak policies. Notwithstanding, he pledged that GoDo will work to also extend the progress by focusing on solutions that will deepen financial inclusion alongside others.

“We will be announcing our incubation programme in the next three months,” he disclosed.

“It is hoped that start-ups that will pass through GoDo’s incubation program will focus on developing result-oriented solutions, that will positively impact the society at large, through the evocation of strategic planning, business model development and marketing plans, to determine the marketing techniques to pursue in market entry and penetration for specific products, services and solutions”, CFA added.

E-church project

E-Church Project Holds Wi-Fi Worship, Set To Populate Cyberspace With Gospel

E-Church Project, an online platform that aims at helping churches gain online presence and leverage on technology tools will on March 26 hold a programme tagged, Wi-Fi Worship Lagos.

The event, which is to hold at Ndubuisi Kanu Park Park Mobolaji Johnson Avenue (Alausa), Ikeja, Lagos is powered by Neo-Skill Consulting, Wi-fi powered by Swift Network and supported by Neo-Skill Consulting, iT360 Magazine, Denits Project, RaveTV and a host of other organisations.

The managing director of E-Church Project, Mr.  Seyi Olaleye, said at a press briefing that the programme is aimed at creating awareness among churches and Christians on the need to depopulate the internet of offensive contents.

He observed that the internet has become the harbinger of evil and a corrupting influence on the vast majority of people noting however that the church has a responsibility to turn the tide.

The church has the gospel, the good news. The church has what it takes to make the internet what it should be. But the church is doing little about putting godly materials online thereby allowing agents of darkness to operate freely with junk and uninspiring contents

He explained further that his organisation was poised to change the paradigm. “We want to use Wi-Fi technology to spread the word and the good things in the Church as well as social channels such as Facebook, Twitter ,Instagram etc.”

According to him, “Lagos State’s Wi-Fi Worship is focused on celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and populating the cyberspace with the message of Easter. It is a platform where the resurrection of Jesus Christ will be celebrated with the aim of reducing explicit content online and ultimately reminding believers of Jesus’ coming.”

Also commenting at the press briefing, Smile Telecom representative, Mr. Andrew said the need for the internet cannot be overemphasized in building the church without walls.

He said, “It is no longer news, but a fact that technology is to the Christian advantage in reaching out to the un-churched. And, Wi-Fi technology is strategic to dishing out ministry content out of the four walls of the church for the blessing to the people outside the church.”

In his own words, Mr. Stephen Akintayo another stakeholder in the programme noted that the gospel can no longer be restricted to the confines of the church adding however that there is need for the church to understand how they could make impact on the internet.

“What the church puts on the internet must be compelling. It must be story-telling to be impactful and attractive enough to lead the unsaved to Christ.” He said.

He observed that “the church has more content than any corporate organisation in the world, yet getting it out has remained the problem, through available social communities. The Wi-Fi Worship Lagos will be a good starting point for the awareness among Church leaders and Christians alike.”

The event will feature other attractions like dance competition, gift sharing, and a host of other inspiring activities. Admission according to the organisers is free.

nescase get started final four

Part 2 of NESCAFÉ’s Get Started Challenge begins

Part one of NESCAFÉ’s Get Started Challenge 2015, which involved a West African truck tour, has just ended. In part two, the best dream projects will compete in a grand finale that will determine the ultimate winner of US$30,000 worth of financial support and mentoring to get them started.

NESCAFÉ Get Started is a challenge where young Africans between the ages of 18 and 30 submit their socially-relevant dream projects to NESCAFÉ in order to win the aforementioned support from the coffee brand.

NESCAFÉ seeks to inspire the African youth to take part in reshaping the new Africa with their own success stories. The brand believes in the potential of the continent’s young people, so it has decided to demonstrate this belief through inspiring them to share their dreams and supporting the most outstanding one.

Part one of Get Started saw the NESCAFÉ truck travel across West Africa, stopping in Côte D’Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

From the activation grounds and other locations across the region, dreams were being submitted online

After a selection process that reduced hundreds of dreams to 9, the public voted again to determine the top four finalists. These are Dare Adu, from Nigeria, who plans to help widows and orphans to become financially independent ; Moïse Compaoré, from Burkina Faso, who is determined to reduce the number of deaths that could be avoided by immediately giving all the patients that enter the emergency ward the emergency medicines; Pierre Nahoa, from Cote d’Ivoire, with the aim of creating a platform that provides native languages learning courses in Côte d’Ivoire and Africa and Korotoumou Sidibé, from Mali, who desires to eradicate food insecurity first in Mali and other parts of Africa.

In part two of NESCAFÉ Get Started, each of the four finalists will be coached via live Google Hangouts on the best way to present their dreams by influential African bloggers who have been able to start their own dreams. After this, there will be a final pitch to a celebrity jury that will determine the ultimate winner.

The jury will consist of Toyosi Akerele-Ogunisji, founder of the RISE Networks Social Enterprise, Fred Swaniker, founder of the African Leadership Academy and Adama Ndiaye, the fashion designer behind Adama Paris and founder of Dakar Fashion Week. Each of these African entrepreneurs will use their expertise and experience in adjudging who the winner should be.

“We can’t wait to see what these dreams are really made of,” says Swaniker. “Each of them has the potential to greatly contribute to creating the Africa we all dream of.”

The second phase of NESCAFÉ Get Started begins this month. By the end of the competition, another young African dreamer will have won the ability to begin making their dream project a reality

For the latest updates on this competition, visit the Get Started website.

A journey to a 1,000 miles starts with just a single step and so it has been with me and my amazing journey into the world of technology – blogging, online media and now mainstream media.

Here’s the role call:

  • 2009 – Blogging
  • 2010 – Online Marketing & SEO
  • 2011 – FATE Foundation Faculty

Tech Trends Small BannerOf course, its been both a challenging and exciting journey. An experience where you have no choice but to trust God because you are unsure of where the next income will come from. If I have learnt nothing from entrepreneurship, I have learnt the importance of having faith in God – the kind of faith that can be described as insane as well as patience. Countless times, I was advised to go get a job by those who were close to me and want the best for me but I said no way, except God appears to me, only then will I give up. Call me stubborn and you will not be far from the truth!

Today, I am so very glad to inform you that Tech Trends will air by 4.30pm every Monday on Channels Television – Nigeria’s most respected television media houses and 9 time winner of best TV station of the year.

I really cannot tell you that I played any special role in making this happen, other than the fact I kept trusting God and working hard to prove to Mr. John Momoh, CEO, Channels Television that I am capable of presenting the show inspite of the fact that I am not a trained broadcaster. Kudos to JM for his trust and confidence in my humble self.

The show was first approved in May 2014 and it took close to 7 months of waiting before it finally hits the airwaves. Of course this is a whole new level of experience and responsibility for me but I put my trust in God who is able to deliver and to save.

Please keep a date with me and the rest of the crew starting Monday, 11th of January, 2015. As usual, if you miss it for any reason, then you can watch the repeat on youtube. Please follow us on social media – Facebook and Twitter.

Thank you for your support all through these years.

Mobile West Africa 2014 kicks off next month

Mobile West Africa 2014 brings world’s most influential mobile expert to Nigeria next month

(Lagos, Nigeria) – 22 April, 2014:

Tomi Ahonen, the man measured by Forbes as the world’s most influential expert in mobile, will be taking to the stage and sharing his esteemed vision of the future of mobile at the Mobile West Africa 2014 conference, taking place in Lagos on 13-16 May at the Four Points by Sheraton on Victoria Island. Mr. Ahonen will also deliver a dedicated full-day workshop on Friday, 16 May titled “How to make money in mobile”.

MWA2014 600x400 banner

Additionally, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, considered as the key figure in bringing about the mobile data revolution in Nigeria, will be presenting his perspective during the keynote session. Mr. Ahonen and Dr. Ndukwe will be joined by senior industry pundits including the CEO & MD of Airtel Nigeria, the Founder of SPARK and iROKO Partners, and representatives from Nokia, DSTV Digital Media, Nigerian Breweries, PZ Cussons and Praekelt.

Organisations such as Eskimi, VConnect, Co-Creation Hub, MTech, ConnectNigeria, SureGifts, and TomTom Africa have pledged their early commitment to the conference, which is regarded as the leading technology event in West Africa, and delegate tickets are selling quickly.

Event founder Matthew Dawes commented “When we first debuted Mobile West Africa way back in February 2011 it was a different era. West Africa’s smartphone penetration was low, Nigeria’s first incubation space (CcHUB) was yet to be launched, the eCommerce boom was still years away, and mobile money was far from reality. It has been a remarkable few years and I would hope that in some way the event has contributed to that growth.

I want MWA2014 to be a joyride – celebrating past successes, critically analysing the industry’s future direction and opportunities, and to again be the conference to come and do business at. Having the likes of Tomi Ahonen and Dr. Ndukwe confirmed signifies our intent to further cement the event’s position as the best in the region.”

Ada and Ezekiel Agbata

I announce the death of my kid sister Ada Miracle Ifeoma Agbata, May her soul rest in peace

With a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of God, I write to tell the world that my kid sister, Ada Miracle Ifeoma Agbata is no more, she has gone to be with the Lord. Read more about her on website www.miracleagbata.com (no longer working)

She died earlier today, Tuesday, 6th of December, 2011 at about 1.30pm.

My sister was hale and hearty this morning because we spoke and laughed before I left for the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of the Pan African University where I had a Social Media and Search Engine Optimization training session.

In the middle of the training session, I got a call that my sister was behaving funny and that it was pretty serious. What was I supposed to do? The training session was on. Besides I knew that if I rushed out it will not solve anything because I am not a Doctor or medical practitioner. So, I relaxed and informed my students about what was going on and told them to pardon me if I became incoherent – thank goodness they understood 🙂

How it all happened

According to my dear Mother who was with her, Ada Miracle was in perfect health and great shape. In fact, she has been waiting on the Lord (Fasting and Praying) for almost a month, she usually fasts from 6am to 3pm but said to our Mum that she will break much earlier, so by 12pm, she knelt down to pray and prayed till about 12.30pm, she got up to freshen up and my Mum heard her scream Mummy, Mummy from the bathroom.

Not too long after this she became unconsious. They got to the hospital and was told that they had to transfer her to LUTH – Lagos University Teaching Hospital to see a specialist…… Before they got there, she gave up the ghost.

Today was one of those days that I am glad that I did not drive to Victoria Island because I might have had a seizure before getting to the hospital cos the traffic was simply insane. I simply resorted to Okada (motor bike) and so for the 1st time I biked from Victoria Island all the way to LUTH, Idi Araba as if that will stop what God has destined to happen from happening.

What I saw at LUTH broke my heart the more, apart from the fact that my sister was gone, I saw so many helpless Nigerians receiving treatment from their cars. Infact, my folks were told that there were no free beds, so my sister was confirmed dead right inside the car that took her there (not an ambulance cos the Hospital she first went does not have an one).

I am still short of words,

Three questions I asked myself based on today’s experience:

  1. How would Hospitals in Nigeria not be prepared for an emergency?
  2. Are you sure I won’t get another citizenshio for my children?
  3. Is Nigeria not ripe for a revolution?

Life remains brutish and short her in Nigeria….. Very sad indeed!!!

Lessons I learnt from my Sister’s Death

1. Give thanks to God

In all situation we must give thanks to our creator, so I stand to tell the world that in all situation give thanks to the Lord for he is our maker.

God, I thank you for today’s experience and for the life of our dear sister.

2. Live everyday like your last

My sister was not sick (at least not physically) but she is no more. It is still like a dream to me, I cant believe that my sister is gone to be with the Lord.
Today it is her, tomorrow is could be anyone else. Do make sure your life gives glory to your maker.   I have made up my mind to give God all the glory despite the great pain that I feel, I trust God Almighty 100% – He is in charge of the universe.

Ada would have died in 2005 but God extended her life and added a few more years. You can read her testimony here.

Sleep on dear Sister till we meet to part no more on the Lord’s day!
