A few years ago, I said to a friend that I foresee a future in which one company will be an online monopoly and I guess you know what company I am talking about, well it is Google. I would not delve into it’s history because most people know or must have read about the company. Google’s destination beats one’s imagination, the company is reputed to be one of the most innovative in the world, any wonder why they have great products, my favorites being Gmail, Reader. Wave and Analytics.

Google in it’s usual style has come up with another product called Google Buzz. On the 9th of February, the product was launched, but with major privacy concerns that are being addressed gradually. I honestly do not know why they choose the name Google buzz when Yahoo already has a product called Yahoobuzz – would you call this being a bully? It reminds Chris Brogan of Friendfeed and for Jessica Dolcourt it is simply a privacy nightmare. What do you think about Google buzz? Feel free to share your views.

Google buzz is an easy way to start conversations about the things you find interesting, you can share updates, photos, videos and much more with your friends and followers (Twitter like). It is basically for Gmail users and is intrinsically linked to Google Reader. Google buzz is growing rather rapidly and I know for sure that it is for different reasons, for true social media enthusiasts it presents another opportunity to further analyze the concept, while for some others it is just another “in-thing”. Whatever the case, buzz is doing pretty well at the moment.

What is the likely implications of Google Buzz?

1. Well for other social media companies like Facebook, Twitter, Ning etc. Google buzz is not so much of a good news because Google may have succeeded a bit in their game plan and which is to ensure that people spend more time using Google sites, products and services. That way they can serve more adverts and make more money. Ultimately, a few more Gmail users will likely spend more time in their mail accounts buzzing or trying to figure out what google buzz is all about.
2. With the launch of Google buzz (and many more social services to come), the noise in social media just keeps getting louder. How can one manage all those profiles? Facebook, Twitter, Ning, Hi5, Badoo, Bebo, Myspace, Friendfeed etc. Well it all boils down to one point; it all depends on you and what you want – your online goals.
3. Personally, I think Google is becoming one huge monopoly, and wanting to also dominate social media is a pointer to this fact. That said, the competition has only just begun, over the next couple of weeks we can expect certain upgrades from key social media networks.

Google will go on to create many more free products, because we give up our privacy in many ways and with that they create better products. What this means for the company, is more profit because each time a new product is launched, it attracts potential users and definitely more advertisers, these strategies is helping google become colossus of some sort by the day.

Mashable posted a Social Faceoff: Google Buzz vs. Facebook vs. Twitter yesterday – I voted for Facebook because it is my favorite, but then I am amazed that in just one week, Google buzz already have some loyal followers. I am still trying to figure out the Google Buzz “thingy” but as a Social Media enthusiast, I see another cool tool to share information and increase your personal brand.

Google may have finally figured out social media, even if there have been some major slip-ups in the way. The implications of that realization could dramatically change social media as a tool and as an industry. — Ben Parr

In case you don’t know what twitter is, it is a micro blogging platform that has taken the online community by storm due to it’s quick paced platform and popularity. I must confess that I never expected twitter to survive up to this point, but they have not only survived, they have grown so popular that other companies now hold them in high esteem. When twitter first launched I did not give them much credit but today I must confess it is an effective tool for marketing.

In order for you to make the best use of twitter, you must be able to navigate through the site properly and also know how to position your business within the community starting with your profile. You should place your website URL on your profile page, the link does not have to lead to your business page; it can lead to your blog or preferred site and from there to your business page. Because overtime you will be able to direct more traffic to your business site and make more sales.

Using twitter avails you a great opportunity to carry out an effective marketing campaign(s) and increase sales for your network marketing business.

Below are three simple ways to achieve business success with Twitter:

1. Provide and freely share valuable information with people.

3. Promote events and generate site traffic.

Network marketing is one opportunity that does not require participants to spend huge amount of money to grow their business and since it is the trend you do not have to spend so much, just hook up to twitter and maximize the free advertisement, but of course you should do it with caution, otherwise you will surely receive  a good number of unfollow requests. Because twitter is a free service, it is prone to abuse but if you have a business mindset you will not be found wanting by your followers.

Fellow marketers such as yourself are all over twitter, therefore you may not find it very easy to get a target market almost immediately. This should not worry you so much because the ocean is too large for everyone to dive in and catch a fish. One thing you should realize is that social media is more of you and less of your company, that is why you must start by joining a good company. Perhaps, you already know that quite a number of people assume that your business is a pyramid scheme and that is because of all the bad experiences they have had in the past. Here are a few steps you can take to  prevent this and help the industry;

• Choose a very good network marketing company.
• Conduct your own research
• Find out from a number of participants what they feel about the company – remember to ask more of indirect questions.

There are many illegal companies out there, so if you decide to be part of a network marketing business, you should choose a legal and reputable company.

Quite a number of people have succeeded and are still succeeding in network marketing and various businesses using twitter, therefore I have no doubt in my mind that you can also succeed using this free, quick and efficient, micro-blogging platform that allows you to post a maximum of 140 characters at a go. Making the most of Twitter.

Twitter is important both as a networking and marketing tool depending on what your goals are. Personally, I use twitter for networking and then a bit of marketing, one strategy I use in social media which I learnt from some gurus is never sell anything in social media. That said, some people follow this strategy and a vast majority of others simply try to sell on social media networks. I really don’t blame anyone because it’s hard to resist such temptation, especially with the knowledge that one can reach thousands of potential clients instantly. It is a known fact that selling or trying to sell on twitter or any other social media networks is quite easy and just by making friends one can own a list of thousands of potential clients free of charge.

Over the years Twitter has become extremely popular, people ‘tweet on a wide variety of topics’ some on business, others leave it at a personal level, this list of topics goes on and on. Only recently, major search engines made a deal to show tweets in search results, this goes to show how well twitter is regarded today. Just by leaving your website details on your profile, you can attract a lot of traffic to your site. Each time I visit any twitter profile, my ritual is to click on the website link there, I am used to this and what it means is that if I find the service or product interesting, I could become a client.

Use automation tools wisely. One great thing about technology is that it evolves, who would have thought about ‘ghost tweeting’ a few years back? Well, it is real and here to stay, people use it a whole lot especially those with pretty huge followers. If you just started using twitter then it is your duty to spread the word and get to meet people. Lastly, It is advisable that you use twitter to build solid relationships with your followers. Don’t be the ‘pitcher’ rather become a trusted friend who would always post useful tips every now and then, because your twitter community will appreciate it more. Maintaining a cordial relationship with your followers is key to your online success.
